Working to specific specifications for the metal work, the restoration of Ontario Parliament Buildings required the eighty old metal grills to be lightly sand blasted to remove surface rust and not weaken the wrought iron structure. As protection from future rusting, a base coat of industrial epoxy paint was applied followed by a top coat of protective UV clear coat. Fasteners were replaced with stainless steel ones to ensure longer life from corrosion. The size of the grills on the Eastern front pavilion of the building required that this part of the work had to be done on site from scaffolding.
